【原文】唐岑文本，為右相。弟文昭任校書郎，多交輕薄。太宗不悅。謂文本曰：“卿弟多故，朕將出之。”文本曰：“臣弟少孤，老母特鍾愛。令出外，母必愁瘁。無此弟，是無老母也。容臣歸，極言勸誡之。”因泣下嗚咽，上愍其意而止。

【評語】情到至處，無不感動，況賢明如太宗乎？文本愛弟，出於至情，實根於至性。發悲哀之語，陳懇切之衷，且垂涕泣而道之。卒以感動君王，收回成命，得免慈親之愁瘁，兼保弱弟之安寧。殊令人嘆服不置。

On Children

Your children are not your children.

They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.

They come through you but not from you,

And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
