【原文】唐岑文本,為右相。弟文昭任校書郎,多交輕薄。太宗不悅。謂文本曰:“卿弟多故,朕將出之。”文本曰:“臣弟少孤,老母特鍾愛。令出外,母必愁瘁。無此弟,是無老母也。容臣歸,極言勸誡之。”因泣下嗚咽,上愍其意而止。
【評語】情到至處,無不感動,況賢明如太宗乎?文本愛弟,出於至情,實根於至性。發悲哀之語,陳懇切之衷,且垂涕泣而道之。卒以感動君王,收回成命,得免慈親之愁瘁,兼保弱弟之安寧。殊令人嘆服不置。
